Thanks gents! I like the peer recognition almost as much as the fishing. Humour is my crutch, my coping mechanism, and how I approach life.

6.5" of ice at hole, measured. I had intended to include that fact originally.

Neck, back, arms, shoulders, legs ,and feet all unhappy about the outing. I passed out at 930 last night and slept in until 730; I never sleep past 5.

Dale, someone had to give you a run for your money. My buddy is on Couch today and tomorrow and wants me to join, but I don't know if I'm up to it. Also, I wouldn't mind enjoying the wildcard games.

I don't think the Shakespeare noodle rod is being made anymore, and I won it one year at the Perch for MS derby. The Schooley 14" UL, affectionately referred to as the "perchinator" will be replaced as it shines for sight fishing.  So yes Jerry, there was some sentimental value. Empathy is always appreciated

James you know, anytime you want just ask.?

Yup....we all use to fish multiple days but as we age (and catch way too many fish in a day), the body sometimes will say "no" and the brain sometimes will listen.

14" rod....I have an old (and fibres are starting to come apart at the tip so I may have to cut the tip off if it breaks) tiny, ultralight HT rod (don't even know the model anymore it's so worn down)...it's 25" but the important thing is the length from reel to tip (18") when sight fishing so you don't have to have our hand way back or off to the side when you are sight fishing and trying to keep the ice off the ice on the edge of your hole...saves some of the body aches from having to hold the rod in a strange way for a long time.

I am wondering what will happen on my first ice fishing this season. I always assume something on the first two trips until you get into a groove (and have your car filled with various things)...forgot auger one year, GPS another year, ice scoop another, etc., etc. Nothing serious enough to cancel a fishing trip...yet and no damage to gear or self yet .

So true about aging and having it take a couple of outings to find the groove. You make excellent points.
I mistyped, the rod was a 18". Now a 17". On the up side the tip of the noodle rod fits the shaft of the 17" rod; the original tip is of too small a diameter to work. Unfortunately I tried this exact experiment several years ago and it changed the action of the rod. It was still good for sight fishing but I'd loose more fish.
I'm also considering taking an old 24" HT microlight rod and cutting it down to make an 18" rod. I'll probably end up buying a replacement next year when they have them on Amazon. Until then I have a couple of alternatives that will work, just a little tougher to sight fish with.
