Beer-battered burbot (say that five times fast):

Had 4 of these, probably could have had 4 more:

Looks great Mike. I had burbot as well last night! They are a lot of fun to catch as well. Great fight - i call them hook breakers. Congrats on a good trip!

Thanks Joe, I nearly lost the larger one right at the hole. The fish managed to wrap itself around the transducer and one of the points on my treble hook was buried in the cable. Ended up letting out a bunch of cable in order to pull the burbot out of the hole. They sure do fight hard!

those look super good.

one thing I learned about burbot is ya, they fight hard, so best to try and keep your hole clear of other stuff if possible

they are twisty slimy and tough to grab, so it's one fish I used to bring a small gaff hook for when targeting them

they are worth fishing for and when prepped right, certainly are delicous...now ya got me thinking about going on an outing for them again

Man those look good. We’re going hunting for them in about a week, hopefully we have the success you did, nice work!

bring vinegar, helps remove the grease and slime while cleaning.

Is this one of the main large lakes around Haliburton (not sure i'm even allowed to ask that). Never caught a Ling before and trying to figure out the best way to go about it

No it’s not one of the larger lakes. My advice would be to use the Fish ON-Line app. You can search by species, look for lakes with deep basins. I caught these burbot in 50’ but they will come even shallower than that. Dusk to a few hours past sundown they will be most active but you could even dedicate a whole night fishing for them. Tip with chunks of bait, scent is important. Here is a clip from an Ontario Out of Doors article I saved with some tips:
