Decided to Check out the ice at Couchiching this morning (with floater jacket and ice picks). I thought with the bit of cold we’ve had that there would be about 4” (bait shop owner said there was about 4”) however it seems the snow might have insulated the ice as there is ONLY 2” OF SOLID ICE on the south end. Hopefully it thickens up a bit tonight.

Thanks for checking. Having not gone for a year now, the hooks are sharpened and am eagerly waiting to get out and source some jumbos. Stay safe and have a great Christmas and New Year holiday!

Any update on ice thickness? Anyone out fishing Couchiching?
I haven't been myself, but I've heard it's a mess out there. There is a ton of snow on the ice and lots of slush. Some places had as little as 2" of ice after that thaw, so the snow will be making things worse for a while unfortunately.

I was out of tudhope on Saturday. Walking out was kind of sketchy at times as the ice was soft and at times my spud would go through in 2-3 hits. Anywhere from 2.5”-4”. But once you get more out of the bay past the points and closer to the green buoy it gets a lot better. I was past the first buoy on 6 inches, about 4.5 of black and the rest white. A lot less slush too. In the bay it was a mess, spots with nearly knee deep snow and some spots with slush up to my ankle.
