did the early morning run up to Simcoe on Friday the 24th and arrived at 6 am.....
out on ice and in the hut by 7 am.....
bite was slow for a while and just getting dinks for a couple of hours with the odd keeper using minnows and some hardware
at 10.30 they got more active and the slab grabber starting hitting decent fish while the minnows did the same along with 4 herring which we released released. got a few tangles with the minnow set ups so took those out and just fished with 1 rod each and it improved our catch rate quite a bit and better quality fish.....
the bite was very steady till 1 or so and we decided to pack it in at 2 and do the long run home
dead sticking a slab grabber was the most effective presentation by far and about 2-3 feet off bottom
it was really fun to get out again with a good friend this time and we wound up keeping 30 each for table fare while releasing far more than that......the numbers of small perch was great to see but annoying to catch lol
ice looked very good ....did not measure it and lots of people out there
got home around 5 ish and fell asleep till 11 pm had something to eat and back to bed. wow can't believe I was that tired
my friend is going back up with his whole family next week.........another one hooked

Enjoy. Are the fish frozen by the time you have to clean them?
No. I never let the fish freeze.
that pic was taken just after we brought the bucket back inside while we were clearing a horrible tangle and just needed the floor space to do that
after the issue was resolved we just keep the pail on the floor and toss in the keepers. i also never clean my catch anymore on the same day but rather put the pail in the fridge for 24 hours and then fillet them...I find this produces a lot less blood and the fish are firmer making filleting much easier to do
never noticed any taste difference whatsoever this way

This Wednesday I have another two rookies with last weeks rookie teaching his buddy another rookie and I will be in another hut with the third rookie .....lots of fun.

Some nice perch catches. Love it when a rookie gets hooked because you introduce them to the fishing....sometimes, that can be as rewarding as hooking fish depending on who that rookie is.

Yes, I do the same thing. Fish all night, then put the fish in the fridge. Then get some sleep and fillet them when I wake up. You are right, no difference in taste whatsoever.
