Crack a couple miles out from North Bay, some were crossing it but about 5 ft of wet ugly stuff in between.Guess as long as you go quick but not enough ice for me.

The crack is 7 or 8 km west of the government dock and runs north/south as far i could see in each direction.

I crossed it 6 times. Twice on Thursday going and coming back from the Manitous. At that time it was only one foot wide. All day Thursday the ice was making a lot noise at the Manitous.

Crossed it twice on Friday doing the same trip. Friday morning the crack was still only one foot wide. All day Friday the ice at the manitous was making significantly more noise than the day before with frequent quakes with noticeable movement. Water regularly erupting from the holes as well. Actually saw 3 small cracks shoot across the floor of the pop up like lightning bolts. Riding out that evening the place we crossed before was a 2 foot wall and the crack opened to 5 or 6 feet. Had to scout on foot for about 1/4 mile with my flood lamp to find a place that was 5 feet wide but with no ridges/walls either side. Crossed without incident.

Crossed twice on Saturday as well making the same trip. Ice on Saturday made the odd small rumbly but no movement or quakes. No real change to the crack from conditions observed Friday evening. Not out today so no report.

Ice thickness was 13.5 inches of hard clear black ice at the Manitous.

Just watched your video Ken and that looks like a different crack than the one i was dealing with - similar but i don't think you are 7 or 8 km out. Or maybe the same and it zags closer to shore where you were.

In the past i have always gotten on at Wade's Landing at the very southern tip of the lake as it is only 5 minutes from my place. This trip I decided to try something different and got on at the government dock in North Bay. Made the change because the ride from Wade's is over 20 Km or more than double what it is from North Bay to the Manitous. So the crack i was dealing with was in your neck of the woods. 7 or 8 km west southwest of the government dock and a few km short of the Manitous.

it must do a sharp left turn as i followed it for about a mile .i must have given up just before it changed as its pretty straight with a slight slant by the outfitters and the mess of shacks now bottled up beside it off sunset.
It will probably close up when we get some colder weather.

haven't been out but betting the cold has firmed it up.
i'm Just waiting for warmer weather and plan to cross it this weekend.
With a sled it shouldn't be an issue.Just look for a flat spot where others have crossed.Saw sleds crossing it last Thursday.

Out here now and crack sealed up. Zero issues just need some fish to bite.
