Back up to Buddy's Cottage again on the weekend.. Friday was one of the nicest winter days I could remember. It was -20 with not a cloud in the sky and not a breath of wind either. My hands were not getting cold without my gloves, it was incredible out. We went five for eight with Lakers and kept one that was under the slot and got a walleye. Lost one of the biggest fights I had.. in 50 ft of water I had it about 5 ft from the hole then spit the hook.. not sure what it was as I didn't bother looking down but if I had to guess on the graph it looked like a walleye.

Did you happen to be n Mountain Lake? I was thinking of going and was wondering how the ice was?

Enjoy your fish fry.

I was up in the area as well on Friday, it definitely felt much warmer than it was. Calm and sunny, I was out in my fleece and bibs. Lake trout always seem to be active on those bluebird sky days.

Lots of walleye in that lake. Lots of slot lakers too. But also some big whitefish and whitefish sized herring. My buddy fishes open water there and and on some of the shoals in the spring there are walleye schools of hundreds of fish. Some bruisers in there too. Walleye seem to occupy the same waters as lakers in the lake. Ever find the balls of herring?

I had what I thought looked like two balls of Herring roll through. As usual suspended, put some small hooks on but couldn't get any nibbles at all. I have caught some pound and a half herring in there before
