Line gets cut when fish hooks on one hook, it pulls the knot to the opposite side and some of them have a sharp burr there from the mold. Or at least they used to. I prefer to use a tiny but strong clasp, no swivel. But lately they don’t stock them up here (for like 3 years) so I use the ones with the swivel attached. Not sure if any of that makes sense lol

Just get a split ring or whatever and put that on the vibrato loop. Tie direct to the split ring. Better action - no break offs
Snaps I used to have were perfect they never came undone, the ones with the swivel attached have come undone a few times. Split rings sound great, I’d be picky to make sure they were as small as possible. I don’t see those types of specialty sizes up where I am and more a convenience thing for me, though I’ve been known to steal one from a tiny spoon like egb from time to time. I may have to try harder and find some.

Great report Flukes...especially remembering the human side of fishing....great catch....sharpening your skills comes with more experience....I think you had a successful first trip.

Agree. Last summer/fall, it took a while to get into the routine of fishing from my yak and after a few trips, everything was routine. Even the soreness of all the lifting, moving stuff around and pedaling became routine and less achy afterwards...of course, catching fish helps with all that soreness too
I can definitely relate to the fishing from my yak issue....lol.

Congrats on the successfull first trip! Hopefully the cold weather stays and you have many more successful outings. I lost a vibrato this fall in a similar way, I just did not close the snap properly while changing the lure. Still try to do it without glasses...
..without glasses....yep I can still see things fairly well. My problem is I am out of practice and after landing a fish and popping out the hook, I was too busy doing a bunch of other things that I forgot to check the terminal tackle before dropping it down the hole.

For sure split rings would be better security but I like the easier and faster changing of lures with the snaps and it's rare that they fail like this (my problem was that I likely opened it up accidentally when unhooking the fish and forgot to have a second look before dropping it back down...too much excitement for me with the first fish of the season and wanting to get it back down since I was marking fairly regularly...lesson learned this year - let's see how long I remember this lesson
