Hey peeps. I am still on a mission to hook into a white fish or a laker. I have all the gears I need. Just wondering what depth you guys are getting these fish at. I have yet to catch a wf or a laker. Would someone just give me some general ideas?
I am still learning but lost at the same time. I fish all over Simcoe but are these fish only in the super deep mostly on the north west side?

Apparently they're everywhere..15 ft-100+. Honestly took me 3 years to catch a lake trout, east side....and havent caught one since...walk for miles and miles and cut a thousand holes or fish for 8 hrs and get skunked, or have the time of your life...it's time on the water.. K bay, oro side, thorah islands , white shoal, long shoal, any shoal, willow beach....good luck....all lures work..it's fishing, electronics do help..lol

Very hard question to answer as what works for me may not work for others or for you. Like the post above stats they can be in a wide range of depth. On sunny days I fish slightly deeper in around 40+ FOW all the way to 90FOW. On overcast days I will try 15 FOW to 25 FOW.
I will try shoals and flats. I will mark on my gps if I caught or mark fish. Move around until you consistently marking fish that stays around a minute or two. You will end up with catching. Once you catch a few… mark that spot to go to first next trip.
One year I upsided 40+ wf out of the same hole I drilled in 10 different trips. The next year it still produced.

In my mind the most important piece of gear is your fish finder.
It will tell you if there are fish there or not and at what depth. Also, it will tell you how the fish are reacting or not reacting to your presentation.

Just to clarify, my first whitefish was s fluke, I caught in cooks bay 25 ft on a slab grabber i had sitting on the bottom. I wouldn't fish cooks bay targeting whitefish. Maybe the north end?, better chances on shoals and flats, humps n drops n the big lake or k bsy

I second this, you may run into the odd whitefish in Cook's but your chances are much higher outside of the bay. The whitefish and lake trout are pushing shallower feeding on gobies so try to match your lures to them. Stay on or near bottom when you mark a fish and try to find locations with a fairly hard or flat bottom so your presentation is visible.
I am no expert on Simcoe and have had countless skunk days on that lake, it comes with the territory. These are just general pointers I've picked up over the years, good luck.

Several years ago on March 16 (the very day when whitefish on Simcoe is closed) I was fishing off Port Bolster (with Taj-provided transportation), and was fishing very shallow water (like around 15 fow) for perch, and by accident I landed a HUGE whitefish:-)

Yup, they can be everywhere. I caught 1 wf 200 yards off Barrie beach. People going for walks all stop by to see what it was. Almost felt like I was sitting on the sidewalk at Yonge and bloor.
