After the poor ice season last year, the wife and I finally made it back to the Bay of Quinte in search of some Quinte Gold and she did not disappoint!
We got up there Friday night and fished all of Saturday at Point Anne. The bite was slow most of the day with some perch being caught including a giant 13.5 inch one. The walleye were just waiting their turn though. The wife needed to grab something and passes me her rod. I get a hit and my rod bends completely in half. I completely freeze up. Is it a 30 inch eye like I’ve been dreaming about?
I was so scared I was gonna lose it. The wife is calm under pressure and takes the fishing rod from my hands while I get ready to bring it through the hole. While it wasn’t a giant, it was still a chunky 24 inch fish. A new personal best. What a rush! Wife was p##### I caught it on her rod on the orange jig head she picked out lol. The bite dropped off soon after and we packed up to enjoy the most beautiful sunset.
The weather on Sunday took a turn for the worse with some major winds. We didn’t have it in us to walk any farther and set up on what I thought was 20 feet according to navionics. It was wrong, only 15 feet. I was p#####. Anyone else have issues with garmin maps not being accurate?
It turned out that it wouldn’t be matter anyways. Around 4pm the bite turned on. I caught 3 more walleye with the biggest being a healthy 23 inches. All caught on the same buckshot spoon tipped with a minnow head.
If you’ve never been to the Bay of Quinte it is truly what dreams are made of. Everyone up there is so kind and welcoming. Free parking all over and they actually want my business unlike the cities on Simcoe. Some of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen coming off the ice. Until next year BOQ!
