Rosseau conditions are terrible, lots of slush and snow buildup with ice thickness varying significantly. Buddy of mine went out from ferndale bay and had 6” slush with snow piled on top with ice thickness varying from 2-4”, this was a week ago. Another guy I talk to who lives on the lake told me not to bother, and the reports in FB groups havent been looking promising.

I assume you didn’t get an answer because no one had any good info. I know I haven’t gone this year to give a report because of all the snow.
I didn’t even see this when I made my post 3 days later. I saw Argo through the ice Port Carling area last couple days, I have seen reports of 2-4” ice 6-10” slush, with a pile of snow on top of that. As of couple days ago. There are bays with good ice but dangerous travelling around without spud every step. And slush levels are above boot level in some places

We went out on Feb 6th to Rosseau. After reading the reports and speaking to Bill at the bait shop, we decided to walk out instead of taking the snowmobile. The ice was 6 inches thick, with 3 inches of good black ice and 3 inches of white ice. The walking was not bad, since there was not too much snow on the lake. I expected to see more snow on the lake and was surpised there was not much ice since it has been so cold.
We caught a few lakers after 5 hours of fishing, packed up and went home. I am glad we spoke with Bill and bought bait from him to confirm we should not take the sled on the ice. We saw a few sleds on the ice, however they were moving from land to land, meaning they did not stop on the lake. I am not sure what the ice will be like now since it has been cold, but there is even more snow now than there was when we were at the lake.
