A few friends and I decided to try a new lake... The drive to and from Toronto was rough as we encountered white out conditions along the way but all that was worth the effort!
The payoff was very rewarding. We caught nothing but burbot all day!
This has got to be one of if not THE BEST ice fishing outing I've ever had!
Sorry for all the blood in the photo... we just wanted to be as humane as possible and not wanted the fish to suffer.
I just want to let newbies to ice fishing know that being adventurous could be rewarding.

Yes… all caught between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm. We were at about 35 feet of water and yes, the species you mentioned are all available in this lake. Walleye was another species we were hoping to catch but no such luck. Maybe next time.

Great outing! Those burbs taste delicious. My best outing was close to yours at 27 ling iced, however it was an evening bite. These buggers are aggressive and a great fight on light tackle. We were using glow shot spoons tipped with a chunk of minnow for scent. Pounding the bottom of a muskoka lake.

I’ve never tried burbot before and everyone has told me to tie on my “lobster bib” before I start eating! I’m really looking forward to see what they taste like! When they hit, I was quite surprised on the tug. Yes, pounding the bottom was the trick to attract them and make them go crazy!

Nice catch...lots of action and in the daytime as well. Love the texture of burbot. However, just a note of caution for those wanting to eat them (and if you care - some people don't which is fine and everyone can do what they want of course)...just check the eating guide for amounts. They tend to be a bit more contaminated even compared to the larger predators like lakers, etc. I won't eat any sized burbot from a couple of lakes around my area but there are cleaner burbot from some lakes around here as well.

Wow…good haul for sure. That will keep you in fillets for a while. Thanks for sharing.
Unfortunately for me, after sharing the catch with my other fishing buddies… there was a line-up of friends and family wanting to get their hands on the few remaining burbots I kept (I won’t have enough to go around). Not sure whether I’ll even have a chance to taste burbot this time! Hope I get an invite for dinner in the near future!
