I have a pair of snowshoes and tried to use them a few times and I find they don't do much for me. They are a fair size, but I always seem to sink nearly as deep as without them. Mind you, I am 230 lbs bone dry, probably 250 with suit and backpack. Don't know if it's more for people under 200 lbs

There is a significant population. Few are caught because few people spend time trying. Odds are way better for lakers and whities for sure.
I have heard from a couple of locals with waterfront there and one told me he caught a beauty brookie off his dock there. Another even closer to the launch said he caught a whitie off his dock (neither seem to be huge into fishing but enjoy doing it). I am all ears if you have some suggestions around that area...feel free to PM me. Also, I wouldn't want to be targeting them too often as it will become more obvious someone is fishing for something close to shore and then it can get out of hand. An underwater camera would be great to have for this.

Was using my snowshoes most of the day today clearing snow off the roof (I get up on the huge mounds of snow around the house....most are around the 2m mark now). Without the snowshoes, I would sink up to crotch level (don't want to be in that snow too long ))) and with the snowshoes, I would say that I sank about 30cm so definitely better but still pretty deep sink. But these are the more streamlined snowshoes that are easier to use for most people (I am still getting myself tangled up every now and hen trying to do things with my feet that I should not - walking backwards, crossing over (front and back), etc. - I will learn the more I fall (and curse). So I think I will give it a shot the next time, esp. since we got about 30-40cm of new snow and now there is about another 30+cm coming over the weekend. The next time I can get out fishing will definitely have even deeper snow.
