Anyone walking out still fishing? I'm planning for tomorrow morning but wondering if I'm going to have slush up to my knees.

If anyone went out yesterday or today, it'd be nice to hear any updates. I will also post tomorrow. I will be walking out (if conditions allow me )

I just got back from a trip down to the lake on my ATV off of Lockhart, pleased to report that the snow has turned into ice and it's all frozen up, I was able to ride on the lake. I mostly stuck to old snowmobile trails that are now hard ice. There were some sketchy areas where people were out yesterday that haven't hardened up yet, but all in all pretty decent.

Was out with Sibbald's huts yesterday. Pretty tight on the way out, pretty soft by end of day. With temps dropping I suspect walking should be fine. But still slush underneath near cracks and huts... there was almost 8" of water on top of the original ice under huts. It had refroze so the operator was able to get the hut up on top of the "new" ice surface.

I just went for a longer ride, and my ATV advice is to stay on the snowmobile paths. If you're going to venture off, take a walk ahead and make sure you're not heading for a bad patch. Ask me how I know... lol The good news is that the slush patches are just shallow enough not to bottom out an ATV.

Rozingator

Thanks for the report. What size ATV do you have? I have a 300 4trax. You think the little lady would be good to go?

@COSPER - I'm riding a 400 Polaris, so not a very big machine. 10" of ground clearance.

Was out at Big Bay Point, Surface was hard enough to walk very comfortably. Snow mobiles were out and running but ATV's might still struggle a little depending where. Looks like the warm weather pressed the snow down enough and hardened to create a pretty good surface crust. Under that is a bit of pocket then about a foot of solid ice.

Got myself another whitefish today. Caught and then released safely. Good day today with very little wind until the snow hit.

Looks like the season might actually end well.

Enjoy everyone~!

Big Bay Point is now closed to walk outs?
Seems silly to have to park on the same road but now walk all the way around to the government dock, then another 2km to actually fish the point...
