I had 3 hrs today and should have gone in the morning when it was nicer out. I started fishing around 12:30ish...I went over to where James got his WF yesterday and set up camp....an hour goes by, and not a mark...not even smelt (how do you get those WF to come over to you James???). Move to the spot where I got my only WF so far this year and first mark about 10-15min...drop down, tap, tap, tap. Tap, tap, tap...slack...set the hook and up comes a small WF...finally!!! And I knew it immediately as it went into that back/forth, side to side fight. Hooked very well, it was not getting away even if I messed things up. Back down, mark again...tap, tap...line goes slack again, set the hook....and gone. Man, it's gonna be a great day, right? Nope. Kept marking every 10-15min, which was enough action to keep me from moving again but none were interested...only one mark came up fast and looked like it was going to hit my second dead stick line that was higher up...I think it was a small laker given how slow all the bottom hugging WF looked today....it turned away just as quickly. Turned cloudy and windy and marks slowed down alot. Conditions were like yesterday and what the Mikes reported in another post but on the way in, it was getting softer again and I broke though the crusty snow into slush...I had mu insulated rubber boots so no issues. The next couple of cold days should make things even better. For sure the snow has packed down alot so there is alot of easy walking trails....going off of them can be a bit more hit/miss with the slush.

Nice whitefish John. Similar to what I had the day before: right before I left and where I was fishing marked quite a few whitefish at bottom but most of the times they were just not interested. I did get two times very light bite, and could get the hookset.

Yup...I was there as you missed twice I hope they start feeding soon. At least, the first part of the issue was solved...the location where the WF were. Did you find anything in the stomach of your WF that day?

Very nice. Glad to hear lake conditions are improving. Just in time for more snow!
As long as most of that packed-down snow froze - it was decently cold last night. I can't imagine the new 10-15cm of snow will make things too much worse than before. Another couple of pretty cold nights and then another good warm up. Should be interesting. And alot of the snow that we're getting today has been blowing around quite a bit so hopefully, it will get mostly blown away from the places I like to fish

Great post….. nice to get a whitey topside. Thanks for sharing
It's finally nice to get another WF...my little one has been asking about WF...we will be having it tomorrow (been marinating). It's amazing to see how many pieces of WF goes down vs. one bite of laker meat and that's it.
