Hi Folks:
Just a quick update on the conditions in the Island Grove area on Saturday Feb. 28th as follows:
- the lake surface was great for travelling - exposed textured ice surface with a skim coat of fresh snow and I didn't observe any snow drifts but I expect there maybe drifts still around - the deep snow and slush conditions we experienced a week ago have not "evaporated" - they seem to be hiding out under the ice - when we tried to drill holes the auger handled was too short to reach open water or in other words it cut through a thick layer of packed snow along with another layer of slush - at least the top layer of ice is thick enough to travel over without any issues. I observed skidoos and ATV's out and about on the ice and it didn't look like they were encountering any problems and conditions were also good for anyone walking - on a further note - it was really cold and windy out on the lake
