With the warm weather all week wondering if anyone thinks the ice will still be fine this weekend or starting to honeycomb.
Still haven't succeeded in catching a burbot anywhere this winter and 30 year old reports on FishOnline don't help. Might give it one more shot but running out of winter.

Even with two full weeks of hot weather the ice will remain fishable by foot until at least April 7 in my area Haliburton. Most lakes have 24-30” ice. Some lakes are 50/50 black/white ice. Some lakes are 80%black ice. One small lake in the bush however was only 1-3” black ice and like 2ft of white ice crap…. That’s the exception where that lake will likely be no good because of lack of black ice. I’m happy to update on Monday what become of the lakes after this weekend. Get them Burbot! Try night fishing after dusk?

What will happen though is the excessive snow pack melting with rain will raise the lake levels and lift the ice and possibly some shore access difficult. That’s what god made 2x6 lumber for.

I witnessed a group of guys using a rubber dingy to cross a 30’ wide gap between the shoreline and ice…. One guy paddled over to the ice and the guy on shore pulled the dingy back with the rope tied to it…. All 10 guys made it over to ice fish another day before seasons end! (I was one of the 10 guys! ) This was several years ago and I still have great memories of that day!
