Fished THE lake again today. Landed two lakers and lost one laker

As to whitefish, it is the same story like last time (3 days ago): marked a few but no takers

Rained a bit around noon but was not too bad

Ice is still good. Though I don't know how many more days the ice will hold considering the current and upcoming crazy warm weather...

Nice pair of lakers. The forecasted rain is now in the lower range of the forecast a few days ago and tomorrow night, it will get down to near -10oC so whatever we lose tomorrow and if there is any water on the ice, it should all freeze up again. The long range looks pretty good once we can get past the next warm period on Tuesday-Wednesday....I am again hoping they will get it wrong again and it will be colder (even if only a couple degrees). My hope of less rain this weekend may come true it seems (15-25mm now vs. 20-40mm previously).

I slept in yesterday and saw initially a big front of rain moving through around 10:30, so I opted out of fishing. I messed up, it was a beautiful day and. I rain til after noon, and it was brief and nice and warm out. Oh well.

Nice lakers!

Well done James!
It was a very slow and soggy day for us. Few marks and a couple of chasers.
I need to learn how to use those vibratos I guess.

Really don't know what happened to those whitefish. Like right now they just don't eat at all. Like completely shut down

I mean a few times in a row, after I had my laker limited out I went on moving and looking for whitefish, and each time I'd mark for-sure whitefish but they just don't take anything. Many a time I thought they sure would hit. I am thinking it is just a timing thing, like next month (April) their bites will pick up, but then I'd have to get them on my kayak:-)

James, I think you are right. Maybe this year everything is delayed because of such a later spawn last fall???
Too many marks that I think are WF are doing the exact same thing...very slow and uninterested. Very strange. I have been spoiled by last fall's easier fishing with more aggressive WF.

Exactly. Based on my previous years ice fishing for whitefish this time of year (and in early April), with most of those whitefish I marked recently at very bottom of water, and with my tapping vibrato, they all looked like sure bet for me (fish would bite for sure), but nope, none of them showed any interest. Go figure:-)

I have a theory. In 2 to 3 weeks time, those whitefish bite will pick up, though by then the ice would probably have been long gone I say.

I think the ice will still be there but the shore access will be gone but still too much ice to get the kayaks out to the fishing spots Hope not but the long range forecast is not showing too much warm weather coming after this Thursday.

We were out on the weekend and I measured the ice Saturday morning and aSunday night and we had lost 4 inches of ice in those two days. Where my son had his hut the ice was 3 inches higher like a raised floor. It kept the floor dry in the hut though.

Was out today...will post later. Ice was still pretty good. yes lost some for sure but the good stuff still seemed about as thick as before so I think most of the ice lost was that white crappy stuff, which shouldn't affect the conditions too much. Just need to get past this warm mid-week and then things should be okay for a bit longer....I hope.
