Before the weekend hit, it was 5-6”. Most of the shoreline is pretty thin now. Stay safe out there

Drilled a dozen holes yesterday, with varying results, 6-9 inches of ice.
think due to the thin ice we had when the heavy snow hit there is some over flow in areas that refroze.

Were you checking south of the causeway? The ice is usually earliest down there.

I may be making a trip down to PTBO and so maybe can detour out to fish for a couple of hours. I haven't seen any reports from Chemong and wondered if anyone has been fishing it this year. How are ice conditions (walking) and how has the fishing been lately? I know it is full of incredibly small dink perch but there are some times, when the perch aren't too bad and the gills are (were) plentiful enough with the odd crappie (if you get them just right). I suspect (hope) there shouldn't be the slush problem that parts of Simcoe/Cooch and Muskoka has had since there seemed to be less snow in that area than further west and northwest but would like to hear from someone who has fished Chemong recently to confirm. Thanks. You can PM me if you don't want to share too openly here. I'm just hoping to hear that the conditions are good and fishing is the same as in past years or better

Drilled a couple of holes today, ice was at least 15”.

Not much traffic on the ice lately, couple of odd sleds hugging the shorelines, and saw 1 ATV going down the middle of the lake.

Thanks. How did you do fishing wise? Still hoping to get down there but looking less likely which is too bad. I usually like to fish the lake at least once a year (for old times sake but it's such a long drive for me now).

Just perch for me, surprised how fat the bellies are this time of year.

How far is the drive for you now? Did you used to live on Chemong?

The perch are getting ready for the spawn coming up pretty soon. It's a little over 2 hours for me now (up in Muskoka)...it use to be about 1.5hrs from the GTA region but I was going there quite often for work stuff but not as often since moving up here (maybe next year, I'll be visiting PTBO more often).

Thanks for the update. I still haven't made the trip and well, now I may try to delay as long as I can so hopefully, the ice leaves faster and then there is open water fishing.

Since March 15th... Balsam up 4 inches...Sturgeon up 3 inches...Chemong up 6 inches. Cameron up, then down. The rollercoaster water level spring season ride has begun. Between the wind, rain and water level changes, makes for an early soft water season again. Get your boats ready. But where exactly will the fish be hiding this spring? I can pass on the exact GPS coordinates for a small fee of $457,691 dollars, or best offer. LOL.
