I decided to go Steel heading Sunday morning. Drove an hour and a half to get to the creek I wanted to fish and realized I forgot my vest at home. I had no terminal gear of any kind. I thought I was completely screwed for the day. I figured since I was there and didn’t want to leave that I could pilfer all the trees for all the gear left behind by other fishermen.
Managed to get enough beads, hooks, micro swivels, a couple of flies and even some good sections of leader. I also managed to find 5 new floats against banks and in log jambs.

The water was a bit low but a nice colour. Not many fish around but managed 3 between cleaning ice off my line and float every few drifts.

Beautiful colours on those fish. Glad you were able to get enough gear together to get them, but at the same time disappointed so much gets left behind. I’ve started getting the boat and gear ready, I can’t wait to get after some out on lake O.

Oh I agree. I am jonesing for the boat. I have a couple of new toys for rigging I want to try. Nothing special but new to me and can’t wait.

The stuff left behind I don't think people can do much about it often. The trees I got the gear from hang over pools. If someone is fishing the pool you can’t walk out and screw up their fishing to get snagged gear. I was the only person on the river and very early so I could walk in and get the stuff out of the trees. As for floats people break off and they just float away. I personally go chase mine and get them in the shallows but many people don’t. I guess they just have more money than I do to buy stuff. ?

Ya fair enough poop does happen. I mean I guess nobody is actively making an effort to loose gear! I’ve got some new toys to try out as well.. with the price of things I definitely don’t want to be losing any trolling gear haha.

Very cool thinking. I have done similar with forgetting stuff or having a rod/reel in the car but the tackle bag was taken in to organize and was not done yet but drove by somewhere I "needed" to give a try....there seems to be always some kind of tackle around if you look hard enough. I guess steelheading, the gear you tend to find will be steelheading gear, which is perfect...and that you caught stuff with that gear is even better Looks like you don't "need" to spend anymore money buying gear in the future

So true.

Other than buying leader I won’t be buying any Steelhead gear for the next decade or more easy. Last year I bought 3 sizes of hooks, 1000 of each size. ?
I also need to get rid of tons of beads. All great colours but I just have to many.

Anyone want to buy beads?

Well our outing was quite successful. Took the flat bottom boat out to fish some holes and drift some gravel area’s. Great day on the river! Landed 10 of the 22 hookups, fish were wild today……
