Always a good idea to check on family, friends and neighbour's. Over 250,000 homes without power. Our family home has not had power for 2 days, and maybe not back up and running until Tuesday. Just a reminder to help out with a quick call, or knock on a neighbour's door. Maybe lend a hand with some clean up. This was a big storm, it's a mess out there. Stay safe.

An excellent thought Crappeeeman.
We all know folks who are not a mobile as we are. That ice storm was devastating in many areas in cottage country.

Excellent thought Fozzy to check on the less mobile and seniors. There is a state of emergency in some communities. It's not just the ice and the damage, it's the days following such an event. Failing generators and back up batteries and a lack of available gas and other essentials. It's spring in some communities, and the pumps in the basement are running non stop. No hydro means flooded basements, and spoiled food in freezers and fridges. Cash only at most stores that are lucky enough to be open. Not everyone has a cell phone or internet, even in these days. Keeping in contact with our neighbours is what makes a community strong. We have already seen arguing and a fight at a local gas station. It's frustrating going through a weather event that may cost time and money. It may take a few weeks for the communities affected to recover. If we are able, we must go the extra mile to help someone that may not be able to help themselves. I wish everyone good luck in the coming days, and stay safe. If you see a hydro crew outside your house, maybe bring them out a coffee or sandwich if you have power from a generator. These guys have a very dangerous job, and are working long hours to support us all.

We got spared up here but my Mom's place got hit bad.

I'm heading out this afternoon to do some clean up for her which means I get to play with the chain saw.

There is some good news, as power crews are working with great effort to repair the hydro lines. These guys are out there with possible impending danger around every corner. Other crews, volunteers, firefighters, police, etc. are out there risking their safety for others. There is also some not so good news, as many of us are still without power. The hydro at the family home is still out, with an estimate of full power not until Friday evening. Thousands of households are facing the same challenges at this very moment. Not knowing when the power is coming back on can be overwhelming for many. With bad weather coming in heavy amounts of rain, there will be more challenges. Our communities are here to help each other and stick together. A neighbour is not just the house nearest to where we live. It is a home with a family experiencing a few exhausting days and nights. With more than a few uncertain days and nights ahead. If we don't know all our neighbours already, today could be a great day to make a new friend. I wish a speedy return of hydro, and peace of mind to those of you that may be struggling right now. Don't be too proud to ask for help if you have damage from the storm. Take your time, an injury will just slow you down. Stay safe.

Went to bed at 10 pm on Saturday. Alarms started coming in at 11 pm. Left the house at 1115 pm Saturday and did not return until Monday at 700 pm. Grabbed 4 hours sleep and then back out until this morning about 6am. Grabbed 5 hours sleep and heading back out shortly - total gong show out there. Was supposed to head to Abitibi for a last hardwater trip today - postponed until weekend.

Not sure what you do for a living exactly. But I am assuming you are out there helping people, with putting in all those long hours.
