I hope everyone made it through the ice storm we just incurred over the weekend.

Here in Minesing, we lost our power Satuday evening, and it just came back on yesterday around 6:00 pm. Roughly about 40 hrs without power. Fortunately we had the wood stove to heat the house and the coleman stove for cooking. My freezer was packed full of meat from last fall's hunts - fortunately, it didn't even start to thaw (thank God!).

Orillia just got completely hammered - I'm not sure if they have power yet.

We lost a couple of trees in our yard - but after a drive through the area, we faired quite well, relatively speaking.

For those without power still - feel free to reach out if you need anything. The fishing community is strong and I'm sure there are many who will help out if possible.

On day 3 without hydro, but getting by. I can imagine anywhere with lots of trees is facing a daunting clean-up.

Happy to have got out fishing on Friday to end on a good note, I would imagine it's time to get boats ready!?

we lost power at our cottage near Midland area, cameras are still offline but we haven't opened the cottage for the year yet so not worried about any food going bad but worried how the roof is with all the ice and falling trees

We lost power at 6pm Saturday, and finally got it back at 3pm yesterday for a total of 69 hours without power. Our neighbourhood was shredded by the storm, trees on power lines all over the place.

Massive thank you and shout out to all the electrical workers and tree removal folks who worked 24/7 cleaning the mess up.

Still without power in my neighborhood of Orillia, day 6
Im ok as i left for Toronto on Sunday morning.Terrible drive, trees downed highway 11 closed and had to detour.Thankfully had enough fuel in my boats gas tank to get me to Toronto.Still thousands of people out of hydro, very dire for some, flooded basements, small kids and babies at home, the elderly, people with special needs that rely on hydro just to survive.I could go on and on.
I went back to Orillia a couple of days ago to pick up a young friend of mine and his 3 kids ,wife and dog ,my wife and i brought them food and drinks and snacks for their kids. As their situation was very dire in their small flat, you could see your breath in their home, they could not remain there.
Fortunately they were invited to stay with a family member in Barrie and my wife and i packed them into my van and drove them there.
This is an awful situation with many people in need,my question ,where the hell is our government when us Canadians are in distress. They could be there offering hot food ,coffee blankets anything to help,so far NOTHING!!! Thanks Doug Ford!!
I know this is a fishing forum and i apologize for my rant but just had to add something to this post.Have a Crappie Day

The devastation is so wide spread it’s so hard to address it all. To easy to just blame a government when you don’t think anything is happening.
I hope people know about the warming centres available in Orillia that have been opened for this terrible ice storm damage. These warming stations are set up by the Ontario Provincial government.
I am posting the following below only as a heads up to anyone who needs help. If people don’t know they don’t feel supported and they need to know help is available.
If you know someone in a bad situation make sure they know the warming centres are available and operating.

“ Following the ice storm, the Ontario government is supporting impacted communities by deploying emergency management personnel and Ontario Corps partners to conduct wellness checks, clean up debris, deliver food and water, and set up warming stations.
Here's a more detailed breakdown of the Ontario government's actions:
Deploying Resources:
The province has sent workers and support resources to areas hardest hit by the ice storm, including the cities of Orillia and Peterborough, the cottage country district of Muskoka, and the Township of Oro-Medonte.
Ontario Corps:
The Ontario Corps, composed of skilled professionals and volunteers, are conducting wellness checks and distributing meals and hygiene kits to those without power.
Warming Stations:
Warming stations have been established in community centers and other locations to provide a safe and warm space for residents to access essentials like charging stations and restrooms.
Relief Centers:
Relief centers, like the one at the Orillia Recreation Centre, offer a warm, safe space, charging stations, access to restrooms, and light refreshments.
Coordination with Partners:
The province is working closely with community partners, the OPP, Emergency Management Ontario, and other municipalities to coordinate efforts and ensure effective support for residents.
Power Restoration:
Hydro One and other utilities are working to restore power as quickly as possible, with crews assisting in power restoration efforts.
Municipalities Declaring States of Emergency:
Several municipalities, including Orillia, Peterborough, Muskoka, and Oro-Medonte, have declared states of emergency to address the impacts of the storm.
Cleanup Efforts:
Teams are working to clean up debris, including downed trees and power lines, to restore access and safety.
Support for Businesses:
Businesses are also being supported to help them recover and get back on their feet after the storm. ”

Also open for showers and warming:

Sunderland Arena
Uxbridge Arena
All local firehalls
Uxbridge Pool
And most community centres through north Durham and Kawarthas.

There are supports available. If you know of someone who may be at risk, check in and offer a hand.

We're looking at hydro returning 11pm open Friday. But i have my doubts considering the amount of damage on our local loop - several trees and lines down, its going to be a lot of work to repair.

Dale, you are 100% right. This is a community of people that fish. So many members of this Fishing Forum spend a lot of time, or live in the areas affected by this catastrophic ice storm. Freezing rain in Lindsay 25mm...in Cameron 25mm...Fenelon Falls 26mm...Orilla 21mm...Peterborough 21mm...Barrie 16mm...Harrowsith 20mm. So many other communities, hard to be sure which towns had the most freezing rain or the highest wind gusts. This is the worst, unprecedented ice storm to hit these smaller communities in many decades. This is the key word..."smaller communities" These smaller communities have been left to handle this disaster almost on their own. Except for the great workers from Ontario Hydro and outside contractors and volunteers. PLEASE...forgive me if I left anyone off this long list of people assisting in their communities. The government, Provincial and Federal should have stepped in immediately. Everyone remember the ice storm in 1998. Or more recent the ice storm of 2013. These two storms hit a larger concentrated population, this is why the response was immediate. This weeks storm is still ongoing, with more wind and rain and freezing rain last night. More power outages last night for some who were just lucky enough to get the power back after 5 days of not having any electricity or running water and heat. How discouraging has the last 5 days been for hundreds of thousands of people. The armed forces should have been called in to do the heavy lifting (clearing the debris etc) and to support all these brave and wonderful people who have stepped up so far. We owe a big hug and gratitude to all the people that have been working around the clock to save our smaller communities. There will be no thanks to our Provincial or Federal government until they step in and help all these fine people. Thousands and thousands of people still without power and still suffering.

Out of all the phone calls I have received or made, trying to assist family, friends, neighbours, and people I don't even know. This article hit close to home for me. This is going to take us all a very long time to recover from this ice storm. We should all be proud of the way our smaller communities have helped each other, this past week. Still lots to do, with or without help from those guys that should have been helping from the start. Time to start the clean up with help from family, friends, neighbours and new friends. Thank you, to all that have voluntarily assisted so far. Still 40% of the outages are still ongoing in many communities. Stay safe.

Always been a Ford man. Ford F150's have always been in our family. We are not a political family and don't mind Doug Ford at all, but he dropped the ball on helping his people (all those affected by the storm) during and after the storm. He is going to Orillia this weekend. He is a week too late. Cottage country does not need a visit. Cottage country needs some real help. Food, water, fuel and other essentials. Above all, cottage country needs the hydro all the way back on for everyone in every household. Please!
