I have bought I would getout or one last go at the whities and lakers. I could t find any bait shops open on my way up north because of power outages from last weekends storm. I set up around 8:00 and put salties on a spreader and jigged another hole.I have been using a 5 foot ugly stick so I can set my chair beside my tip up but jig another hole a bit farther away to avoid tangles. It’s been working really well! It was windy today so it took some time to set up my tip up but I got my first hit on the jiving rod and landed a nice whitefish about 22 inches. The hook popped out of hole he was in the hole but I had a hand ready and scooped him out. I put the lure backdown and in two minutes I had another hit that felt heavier. After a nice battle I got thelakers head in the hole and as I reached for his gill plate he thrashed and put the he other hook in my thumb. I grabbed on anyway , got him out of the hole when he thrashed again and tore the the hook out. I fished for another hour at this spot and tried another spot for half an hour when I decided to head out. When I cleaned the fish the lake trout had a few smelt in it but the whitefish was empty.

Nice job on those whitefish fillets Bill. I’ve had my fair share of tangles with my 2nd line, especially with lake trout. Hope the thumb heals up quickly.

Wow! All this blood from a hook in the thumb! Nice catch on the white fish and lake trout I guess it was worth the pain!

My hands were cold enough I didn’t notice it until I got back to the truck. It bled like crazy but it’s a long way from my heart. I suspect I’ll recover.?
