I am on the south/southeast side of the Lake and I find 8 times out of 10 the wind is out of the NW. There are still many places that you can launch to get out of the wind. While you are new to boating I would not go past about a 10min run back to land, lady Simcoe can be a real hitch sometimes and it only takes 10 mins to go from bluebird sky to holy s*#t!!!

That's a pretty general question. For starters look up top for Marine forecasts under Lake Info. Also, I highly recommend a Marine Radio tuned to the local Coast Guard station, Channel 21 (Int.) There are many other sources of wind forecasts; my personal favourite is Sailflow. Other than that, design and size of your boat along with experience and knowhow of the skipper are just as important. Finally, the amount and direction of wind to be concerned about also depends on where you are on the lake.
The EC Small Craft Wind Warning kicks in at 20 knots. No one I know would want to be fishing in anywhere close to that.
In addition to what TG posted some Insurance Co. will not pay out if you had an incident on water when there was a "small craft warning " in effect.

Yes I bought a 2013 17.5 mirrocraft with a merc optimax 125. I traded my sylvan 15 explorer with a 40 e tech on it, I liked the sylvan but at 68 inches wide it was not comfortable, the new boat is 93 wide and rigged up a lot better then the old boat. I am pumped to get it out on simcoe and try to figure out the GPS fish finder which should provide some amusement for my wife.

Ssaaacckk - Loving the Legend. Living the life. I could have gone with a slightly more powerful outboard, but I have a 14 year old son, and want him to learn proper boating before he gets addicted to speed. I want him to enjoy the journey, not just rush to get there and back. Anything by Legend is good in my book. Made by Canadians for Canadians... I'm sure you'll enjoy the Prospect!

Can't wait pick up May 3rd just moved it ahead a week. We decided to buy a boat in place of giving meaningless 25th wedding anniversity gifts. A redneck 25th equals aluminium not yuppi silver.
