My dad and i are itchin to get out in the kayak and are thinkin were probably gonna head out on the nottawasaga on saturday. anyone know if any bows are in the river? Normally dont fish the nottawasaga for bows, but i know it gets a good run. Just curious if its worthwhile bring the fishin stuff too? also if there are any remaining ice dams, although i would think theyd be all gone by now?

I think you might want to bring a helmet because you'll be banging your heads off going under the bridges, it's right to the top. As for fishing, you'd probably need cannon balls to get your bait down. I hope we don't get much more rain as is forecast, otherwise there could be some flooding.

i would give it a few weeks yet for the notty, go down to the mouth of the pretty river in collingwood if you want to fish bows right now. the water in the notty is way high right now.

hey will ; you might hold off on the nott!!i crossed it three times today and its blown wide open!!even when the water drops some the breakaway ice chunks can be very dangerous moving downriver at a high rate of speed!! ....be careful...respect ma nature....bent rods

was afraid of that... I checked the mnr site to see the flood advisory and it just said high water, no flood warning at all so i thought we might be good to go. When its high we normally paddle down willow creek from george johnson road then continue downstream on the notty. If i dont get out ice fishin tomorrow i might ride my bike down to check it out... Only about 25km to the bridge in angus. If not well probably hold off the paddling a little longer, till the water levels are a little lower.

thats a better idea Will, I never fished the notty in the spring (only in the fall), but fished credit and bronte many times in the early spring. At breakup time swells, ice and speed made our old honey spots, look totally different,, kinda scary at times. Seen notty in the spring many times,,,would imagine that river could be even worse, seeings how its generally a wider river. I agree with steelheader,, ole mother nature can be relentless,, gotta work with her, not against her. Be careful Will, wanna see ya on the water, not the news.

Had to drive over to Angus this afternoon and crossed the Notty on Highway 90. High (to the top of the banks and more), dirty and running fast. Not a place I would fish right now. Probably worse by the time it gets to the mouth.

well we ended up with some icetime today for hockey so the paddling was a no go. When we drove by it didnt look to bad/intimidating, and if its like that next weekend we will not hesitate. If anyone esle is also looking to hit up the notty in a boat/kayak i would recommend no, unless you are very experienced. I know what you are thinking about my age and stuff but both me, and especially my dad are very strong paddlers. the water flow is not the danger, its the fallen trees and such where the dangers lies.
