Well getting stir crazy sitting at home went out for a drive to check the ice conditions.

Stopped by Guelph lake by hwy 124 on the reservoir side an was surprised to see 3" of ice. Half white ice, half black ice. Did not venture out far at all just stepped on to take a look, no people or footprints around which is a good thing. The ice is not safe... yet

one day at a time. Maybe New years day ill get a chance to drop a line, given there at least another 1" of good ice made, and if ill be in good enough shape from the night before.

Absolutely guys, I've gotten a lot of information from this board so I thought Id keep everyone up to date with what's going on here.

Again I was cautious and only walked a few few off shore. Like I said maybe New Years afternoon.

I've only fished the lake once so ill be learning it this year. It was only a short period as the day before was a Simcoe adventure with both main lake and cooks.

I called Belwood and the message machine said no ice fishing due to unsafe ice....I suspect another week maybe.

Cheers

Slingshot, This is a site to check Belwood. Lake. Not sure how often they update. They used to post ice thickness once they were open. That would be the thickness in the area of the dam. Go to site and in the left column, click on winter activities.

I was on Guelph Lake this weekend and there is about 8 to 9 inches of good hard ice. About 20 to 25 people out on the ice and quite a few huts. Lots of creeking and cracking when drilling holes. You can tell the water level has dropped a good 4-5 inches from when it first froze as it is an active reservoir. Its supposed to get warm and rainy Monday and stay like that for a few days, so be smart out there and good luck.
