5'6" light action browning combo from bass pro$29.99 when on sale, pending depth of water determines the line...20fow or less 4-6lb mono, 20fow or more 4-6lb braid. We tie our own 2 and 3 hook rigs from floro.
We have also been doing alot of drop shotting for perch in the last couple of years, drop shot stand off hook and a drop shot sinker, small 1" tube or twister tail, if you have not tried drop shotting for perch you got too.

Have also don it......shake a spoon in open water as you would through the ice and hold on, Slabbgrabber, Ken hook, Watson or what ever your favotite Ice spoon it happens to be, they work well in open water.

i never go as light with line as you guys seem to as to me perch (in the lakes i fish in) aren't line shy and secondly i always end up getting either a big pike, smallie, or walleye just willing and ready to snap my line and go.
