Hi Everyone...

Happy Easter!

I spent the day yesterday fishing the Kingston area in search of spring crappie and perch. Most of the back lakes are still frozen, which I expected, but I was concentrating on shallow bays and creeks that were thawed and warming up. I checked a few spots that have produced crappies in the past and nothing. It seems things are a little behind this year with the late winter and the shallows (which were open water) did not have any crappie. I kept trying and it finally happened, the bobber wiggled and it went down, fish on, a nice 10" perch... Once I found the perch the action was steady, landing about 50-60 fish and kept a dozen keepers for a fish fry. It was great to get the ultralight rod, bobbers and jigs out and watch that bobber go down.. Working colours was pink, chartreuse and white. I used both tube jigs and twister tails. Best producing lure was a 1.5" white twister tail. I did not have any bait and just used artificials. It was a beautiful day yesterday, sunny, warm and catching fish.. I could not ask for a better outing..
Spring is here!

Cheers,
Jerry

Wow Jerry, looks like a nice catch and a great day. How big was your largest perch? I love the shots of the open water, getting tired of looking at ice. As you know most of my ice fishing this year was more like work.

Thanks for the report Jerry. Looks like a beautiful day for fishing and nice to get some keepers.

We are in Fenelon Falls but everything here is still frozen. A beaver has taken residence in a nice bay that usually produces crappie and sunfish so not sure if the fish will be all eaten or scared off this year.

Hey Nicole;
Re the beaver..No threat to your fishing ,in fact they are vegetarians and the lodges and food piles will make excellent hangouts for the crappies and perch, I fish them tight with a slip float and jig...Should make great fishing...

Thanks steelheader, I just assumed they would eat fish but wasn't sure. Now as long as they don't take up too much of the bay so we can get the boat in and out safely we will be in good shape.

All the perch I kept were bwt 9-11". It's hard to find real big jumbos in the back lakes of Kingston fishing on the shore. In a boat I know a few spots, but 99% of the time I am boat-less when I am there...
