Anybody fish there today-Tuesday or in the area today? Anybody planning to fish the area Wednesday? I'm thinking of going over on Thursday and I'm wondering if the pack ice has been blown offshore and if anybody is catching fish? I'm getting cabin fever since March 15th and besides I have a Christmas present to baptize--13 ft noodle rod. Appreciate any comments. Thanks. Sdcaller

Winds looks like Wednesday would be the better bet; N and NW wind should move the ice away from where you're going. Thursday shows winds from the EAST,... not good for this area. A lot of ice is still in the bay and should lock this shoreline in over Thursday.

Hey Wilbur-thanks for your comments. I know the forecast winds for today were offshore, but unfortunately I couldn't go today. The winds are supposed to be light tonight and tomorrow, so I'm hoping it will be fishable on Thursday. I guess I'll know when I get over there. If anyone reads this and was over there today, let me know how it was. Thanks.

I may be geographically challenged but I'm struggling with how a North or North-West wind could possibly prove positive for ice conditions at Craigleith. Either one would be moving ice towards shore.

Now you know why some people can only navigate with a GPS or Tomtom that tells them when to turn and when they've arrived. He ain't leading me around.

Hey Grampa Jim, you are right about wind directions. To keep Craigleith clear, West and Southwest winds are the best. In any event I went to Craigleith today and the water was clear of ice and also appeared to be clear of fish. I was there all morning with about a dozen others and I didn't see anyone, myself included, get a hit, much less a fish. Oh well nice day to be out there. As relates to ice, once you get down to Collingwood and further into the end of the bay there is lots of pack ice floating around. While Collingwood harbour is now ice free, the pack ice was blowing into the harbour and the harbour mouth was choked with ice. I took a look at the mouth of the Nottawasaga River on the way home and while it is running high, it is fairly clear. The Park boat launch was not open, but people had launched at the Nancy Island ramp. Just out from the mouth the Bay is choked with ice and there were 3 boats fishing at the ice line, I assume for whitefish. I was too far away to see if they were getting anything.

For Grandpa Jim: You're right on the wind directions; this reply I gave was for the best of the then "next two days". Friday calls for E to SE winds,... deadly anywhere along a west shoreline. From a couple of friends that fished this shoreline, "not much happening"! P.S. "Might be a good day to invite buddies over and cook up some Simcoe Perch!!!"

Don't mean to beat this to death but Craigleith is a south shore. It's a late spring so water temps are likely somewhat below optimum which would make it a tough bite for sure. A strong, sustained south wind might blow the shore ice mid-bay but won't do much if anything for the water temps. Seems to me that we're a good ten days to two weeks behind "normal" spring conditions.

craigleith is open banged two fish in ten min and went home , limit is 2 rainbows you must cast past the colour change near the seam about 30 yards . 1.25 ounce flat sinker to keep the waves from bringing the sinker back in, 2.5 foot flouro leader with bead and a blown worm. they love to fly. dontforget to time the landing with the waves .good luck will be going again on mon or Tuesday. there was a 2 foot chop.
