Can anyone recommend which part of the lake would be best to get into some smallie action.

Lots of great spots on Erie! All depends on what part of the lake you want, and when your going to fish it.
Cheers!

Eastern basin is hot for smallies. Lots of shoals and rock piles 25-30 fow.
Use goby imitation baits, like brown/green tubes.

I'm not sure of accommodations. If you want to add perch to the mix, I have done well at Turkey Point.

The whole section of waters from the upper niagara and then ovewr to Port dover is full of humps and smallmoutt waters plus other game fish.

Biggest chalenge to fish Erie is weather.ie winds that rough the lake up quickly.

As for cottages, there are some at crystal beach / Erie and or private ones for rent all the time.

Suggest you do searches for same ...good luck

Longpoint has a park for trailers and tents and a boat launch. The bass fishing there is 2nd to none...

Hey Straightshooter,

Yes, the Fort Erie area all the way to Port Dover as Longshank stated, is full of boulder shrewn humps and shoals that attract ridiculus numbers of smallies. Average fish starts at 3 lbs. Fantastic fishery. I know a US Bassmaster who fishes that area religiously. If you want a day of guiding in the Buffalo area by a bassmaster, just let me know, i'll make sure they take good care of you and give you a very good rate. Let me know if you want the contact info..

Cheers, Jerry

You won't find many cottages with docks on Erie, there are several marina's to keep a boat at, I fish the western Basin for perch/bass/walleye and rainbow, if your a troller rainbow are plentiful in August.

Oh no, there are lots of prop breakers! Most are near shore. Get a good map of the area you are going to.
Cheers!
