Caught in the Rideau River in 2008. I thought it was a Musky, but I can't find anything on the internet that looks like it.

X2! They are relatively rare in Ontario and that is definitely a big one.

I caught lots of chain pickerel in Quebec when I was growing up, but they all had the very distinct chain pattern on there side and were a lighter green color. But the I never caught one that big. Even the grass pickerel were a lighter green than the northern pike. Again, only smaller ones caught. Thanks!!!

Below is my old avatar pic. It is a picture of a good size chain pickerel that I caught in NS a couple years ago. It shows the patterning of the fish a bit more clearly. Hope this helps Based on the two pictures I don't think yours is a chain pickerel. Almost looks like a cross breed?

I don't think it is a Chain Pickeral and I found this on the Internet and I think it could be this rare Chautauqua Musky

Bob

The Chautauqua Muskellunge (E. m. ohioensis) is known from the Ohio River system, Chautauqua Lake, Lake Ontario, and the St Lawrence River. They are perhaps the least known musky species.

Admin here using bayliners account because John is passed out-- too many wobbly pops... But I think its a tiger muskie, hydrid pike - muskie. Lots of pike in Rideau and highly likely they are breeding with muskie from upper sections of river..

O ya we went fishing tonight in trent river and caught a big huge skunk..

As far as I know chain pickerel have a distinct black spot on the gill plate. That fish in the pic looks like it has a muskie-like gill plate. But hard to tell, since fish is a bit beat up.

I actually just filled his boat with water to confuse him even more. He'll be bailing tomorrow morning while I take Justin's boat out..

I've fished the rudely it's also know has a great chain pickerel factory. This to me is a chain pickeral. The mouth/head does look like a musky but the pattern marking is chain pickerel!
